Making the Most Out of Your NDIS Phone Meeting

Making the Most Out of Your NDIS Phone Meeting

You’ve taken an essential step towards accessing disability and support services, and now you’re preparing for your phone meeting. Undoubtedly, you’re seeking tips to ensure you make the most out of it and navigate the process smoothly. Let’s delve into how you can prepare effectively by breaking down what to do before, during, and after the call.

Before the Phone Meeting
  • Mark Your Calendar: Ensure you note the date and time of your phone appointment with the NDIS representative. It’s crucial not to miss this opportunity to discuss your needs and goals.
  • Know Your Contact: Take note of who your meeting will be with. Familiarising yourself with your NDIS representative can help you feel more at ease during the call.
  • Choose a Quiet Space: Find a quiet, distraction-free environment for your phone meeting. This ensures clear communication and allows you to focus on the conversation at hand.
  • Ensure Phone Readiness: Charge your phone and ensure you have good reception to avoid any interruptions during the call.
  • Prepare Documents: Have any relevant reports or assessments handy for reference during the discussion. This can provide valuable information to support your NDIS application.
  • Send Reports in Advance: If possible, send your reports and assessments to your early childhood partner, Local Area Coordinator (LAC), or NDIA before the meeting. This allows them to review your information beforehand and streamline the process.
  • Coordinate Assistance: If you have someone assisting you with the planning, ensure their availability for the call. Remember, only one person should speak at a time to maintain clarity during the conversation.
During the Phone Meeting
  • Seek Clarification: Don’t hesitate to ask the NDIS representative to stop, repeat, or explain anything you don’t understand. Clear communication is key to ensuring your needs are addressed effectively.
  • Provide Verification: Expect to answer proof of identity questions for verification purposes. This is a standard procedure to ensure the security of your information.
  • Take Notes: While you’ll be guided through the planning process, it’s essential to take notes during the call. This helps you remember important details and understand the next steps.
  • Ask Questions: Feel free to ask any questions you have about the NDIS process, services available, or your specific situation. Your NDIS representative is there to help you navigate the system.
  • Confirm Next Steps: Before ending the call, make sure you understand the next steps in the process. This ensures you’re prepared for what comes next in your NDIS journey.
After the Phone Meeting

If you realise you forgot to mention or ask something during the call, don’t worry. You can always follow up with your early childhood partner, LAC, or NDIA Planner via email or phone call. They’re there to support you throughout your NDIS application process.
